Hincapie joins Arsenal

Arsenal have completed a move for Piero Hincapie, with the Ecuadorian defender arriving at the Emirates Stadium on an initial loan transfer, before paying around £32 million next summer for a permanent deal. Bayer Leverkusen had given the Gunners permission to speak to the versatile defender last week, and Hincapie will be the only new arrival on this hectic transfer deadline day.

Hincapie is one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga, and famously helped Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title. However, he had grown frustrated with life in Germany, wanted a fresh challenge, and now gets his dream move to England.

Arsenal have signed a 23-year-old defender that can play at left-back or centre-back, and will provide sufficient cover for the team.

Yesterday, in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, star defender William Saliba picked up an injury and could be out of action for a few weeks, and so the arrival of Hincapie comes at the right time with the Gunners needing further defensive reinforcements. It also comes as the club will let Jakub Kiwior move to Porto for 32 million euros today.
