Guehi won’t join Liverpool

Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi has been denied a deadline day move to Liverpool.

The centre-back underwent his medical with the Premier League champions earlier today following a verbal agreement over a £35 million fee.

However, a deal has now collapsed with Palace unable to find a suitable replacement. Igor Julio was expected to join from Brighton on loan, but Palace had some concerns regarding his medical.

As a result, they pulled out of the move. With the failure to find another alternative, the east London outfit decided to call back Guehi following discussions with head coach Oliver Glasner.

Guehi has entered the last year of his contract, and he is now likely to leave on a free transfer at the end of the campaign. A cut-price deal could also be negotiated during the next transfer window.

Liverpool will be bitterly disappointed, but they have sufficient depth with Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez present to provide back-up for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in central defence.
