Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi saw a potential move to Liverpool collapse on deadline day, while his former teammate Eberechi Eze completed a big money switch to Arsenal
Marc Guehi is set to link up with former Crystal Palace teammate Eberechi Eze this week, with the pair called up by Thomas Tuchel for England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
Guehi and Eze played together at Palace for four years and were instrumental in their FA Cup triumph last season and their victory in this year’s Community Shield. Both players were heavily linked with moves away this summer, but Eze was the only one who got his transfer.
Eze completed a £60million move to boyhood club Arsenal, while Guehi saw his £35m switch to Liverpool collapse on deadline day. The defender had already completed a medical with the Premier League champions and was ready to sign a contract.
However, Palace pulled out at the last minute after their attempts to sign Igor Julio on loan as Guehi’s replacement fell through, with the Brighton defender joining West Ham instead.
Guehi is out of contract next summer and is expected to leave on a free transfer, with Liverpool facing a fight to sign him as other clubs across Europe join the race for his signature.

And there might be a hint of jealousy on Guehi’s side when the pair link up with international duty this month. Eze got his dream move – but Guehi didn’t.
For now, though, Guehi’s focus will be on England’s qualifiers and enjoying another successful season at Palace. Eagles boss Oliver Glasner will be delighted that the defender has stayed, having stated before deadline day that he did not want to lose Guehi.
« He’s so professional and it was clear he would play today, » Glasner said after Guehi scored in their 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday. « I can say it with clarity, and I said it to the chairman that it’s nothing to do with Oliver Glasner but we need to keep Marc to play a successful season.
« We had a meeting in March where we talked about the situation so again we know how the situation is and we have an agreement that we could sell Marc if we have the right replacement in.
« We wanted to have this replacement at the beginning of the pre-season to be independent from this situation.
« That was on July 9 (the season started), it’s August 31 and there is no replacement in the building so it’s clear one part of the agreement is not fulfilled that means we can’t sell Marc. »
