Alexander Isak finally got his wish on deadline day as his record-breaking transfer to Liverpool was confirmed, with the Swede also earning a massive bump in pay
Alexander Isak’s bumper new Liverpool wages after his £125million transfer from Newcastle remain inferior to Erling Haaland’s historic Manchester City contract. The 25-year-old’s long-awaited transfer to the Reds was confirmed on Monday, making the ex-Magpies striker the most expensive player in British football history.
The official announcement of the move was confirmed after the 7pm deadline as Isak completed his medical and media duties before heading off to international duty with Sweden. Isak was already one of Newcastle’s highest earners, reportedly banking £120,000 a week but has enjoyed a significant bump in pay with his new club.
According to The Guardian, Isak has inked a six-year deal worth a whopping £300,000 a week. Despite the mammoth figure the striker will be earning at Anfield, it pales in comparison to Haaland’s compensation.

It was January when the Norwegian superstar signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract that would keep him at the Etihad until the summer of 2034. While he had only been at City for two-and-a-half years at the time, his contract was set to run out at the end of the 2026/27 season.
Thanks to his exploits, which included leading City to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the Champions League and a Super Cup, he was awarded a staggering £500,000 a week basic salary.
While Isak is a long way off Haaland’s salary, only four other players in the Premier League earn more than him. Two of them are his new team-mates, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, while the other duo is Manchester United midfielder Casemiro and Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling.
Isak’s new pay packet also puts him level with Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes. While the Swede will have to wait two weeks to potentially make his Reds debut, he discussed just how excited he is to get started on Merseyside.
« I feel amazing, » said Liverpool’s new number nine. « It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.
« I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there. I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve.
« I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well. I want to win everything. Yeah, [as simple as that]. »
Isak was nearly joined by Marc Guehi on deadline day, but the Crystal Palace captain’s move to Anfield fell through at the eleventh hour. Despite him completing a medical in London after a £35m deal had been agreed by the two clubs, Palace pulled the plug on the transfer after Igor Julio opted to decline a move to south London and instead join West Ham on loan from Brighton.
Guehi, 25, held last-minute talks with Palace boss Oliver Glasner, but he remained steadfast in his desire to keep the England defender, and the club eventually withdrew from the deal.
